The development of the inter-governmental working group was one of the key outcomes of the Rio+20 Conference held June 2012 in Brazil. As a follow up of the decisions contained in the Rio +20 outcome document “the future we want”, the President of the General assembly appointed Ambassador Macharia Kamau and Ambassador Csaba Korosi Permanent Representatives to Kenya and Hungary to the United Nations as co-facilitators of the intergovernmental consultative process that developed the methods of work, the agenda of the Open Working Group and facilitated the convening of the inaugural meeting of the OWG on SDGs.

International Peace and Security; Peace Keeping Affairs

Kenya through 1st and 4th committees of UNGA continues to contribute Military, Police and Corrections personnel to UN and AU Peace keeping Operations (PKOs) with most of them being in Africa. Today, Kenya has peacekeepers in Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Sierra Leone and Liberia. In New York, Kenya is fully seized to all matters of peacekeeping through collaboration with the UN Department of Peacekeeping and Department of Field Support and the UN Security Council Working Group on PKOs and through Kenya’s membership to the Special Committee on Peace keeping Operations (C34)
